Remote Early Intervention Program Delivery Outline:
Skype or Video Evaluation:
A one hour consultation via Skype will be scheduled for families who choose to use our services. The goal of the initial consultation is to provide a program overview as well as observe your child within their home environment. Your child's strengths and weakness will be discussed and an example of a typical program will be reviewed. If a Skype consultation cannot be scheduled, a one hour video of your child within their natural environment may be recorded and posted to ABA International, 20 Bauer Street, Queensland, Australia, 4215.
Development of ABLLS-R:
The ABLLS-R is a task analysis of many of the skills needed to communicate successfully and learn from everyday experiences. An individualized Assessment of Language and Learning Skills-Revised (ABLLS-R) will be developed for your child based on observation and feedback provided during the consultation. The ABLLS-R is a set of over five hundred skills, divided into twenty-six developmental areas.
Our early intervention programs typically target the following developmental areas:
Cooperation, visual performance, receptive language, motor imitation, vocal imitation, requests, labeling, spontaneous vocalizations, syntax and grammar, play & leisure, social interactions, group instruction, following classroom routines, generalized responding, eating and gross motor & fine motor skills.
These objectives have been targeted to build upon existing abilities and develop new skills. The targeted assessment skill areas will be provided for completion and return: The five hundred plus skills included in the ABLLS-R will be narrowed down to between eighty-ninety skills for your completion. Completing the assessment typically takes parents between six to eight hours. It's suggested that the assessment be completed over the course of three or four days.
The following is an example of a visual skill typically targeted for assessment:
Can Sophia put single, uniquely-shaped puzzle pieces into a frame board?
Level 4: Sophia can place 5 pieces presented as group by looking and positioning
Level 3: Sophia can place 3 pieces presented as group by looking and positioning
Level 2: Sophia can place 5 pieces handed separately using trial and error
Level 1: Sophia can place up to 3 pieces handed separately using trial and error
Assessment of ABLLS-R:
ABLLS-R assessment results will be graphed and analyzed. An Individualized Educational Program (IEP) will be designed for your child based on these results. The IEP will be designed to include areas of strength to help motivate your child as well as deficit areas to help increase your child's learning potential. A typical IEP includes seventy-eighty targeted skills for program implementation over a one year period.
The following is an example of a typically targeted receptive skill for program implementation, including some of the 70-80 skills that may be included in a one year IEP:
A) COOPERATION AND REINFORCER EFFECTIVENESS
A3. If you hold up a non-reinforcing item, will Sophia look at it and watch it as you move it to different locations?
A5. When one of Sophia's reinforcers is available but she must engage in a known response to receive the reinforcer, does Sophia approach and perform the response being requested?
B) VISUAL PERFORMANCE
B3. Can Sophia match objects to an identical object presented in an array of three items?
B6. Can Sophia match pictures of objects to corresponding objects?
C) RECEPTIVE LANGUAGE
C3. If you hold up a reinforcing item and ask Sophia to look at it, will she look at the item?
C15. If you ask Sophia to touch a part of his body, can she do it?
D) MOTOR IMITATION
D1. Will Sophia imitate a motor action using an item/object when asked to "Do this"?
D7. Can Sophia imitate actions when the instructions are varied?
Program Implementation:
A training seminar will be provided for parents, family members and therapists (if applicable) prior to program implementation. Training will conclude with an introduction of the child's program goals for the upcoming year and examples of skill implementation techniques. Training length may vary, depending on ABA application experience and early intervention experience. Training includes your child's program review and implementation procedures.
Program Review:
Once the child's program commences, phone or Skype consultations will be scheduled on an "as needed" basis to review therapy delivery and address program related questions. There are typically delivery related questions in the early stages of a new program. Ongoing consultations assure that the many elements of successful program are correctly implemented.
